10-Point Assessment

Medical Weight Loss Programs in Southside Jacksonville: A Data-Driven Path to Real Results
What a Medical Weight Loss Program Includes
Most people think the whole thing is a prescription. It isn't. The medication, if you use one, is maybe a fifth of it.
We start by measuring. Comprehensive bloodwork tells us about thyroid, blood sugar, and hormones. A Dexa+ body scan takes about ten minutes and breaks down your fat, lean muscle, and visceral fat around your organs. That visceral number matters more than the scale does, it's the fat tied to metabolic disease. And PNOE RMR testing shows how many calories your body burns sitting still.
Why bother with all that? Because two people at the same weight can have completely different metabolisms. We see it constantly.
- Baseline labs and a Dexa+ scan before anything else
- A provider visit to review your history, meds, and goals
- GLP-1 semaglutide or tirzepatide injections when clinically appropriate
- Peptides and B-12 injections as supportive options
- Health coaching for protein intake, strength work, and sleep
- Follow-up scans to confirm you're losing fat, not muscle
The follow-up scans are the part people skip and later regret. Rapid loss without enough protein and resistance training pulls muscle right along with the fat. You feel smaller and weaker at the same time. So we re-scan and adjust before that becomes a pattern.
Some clients also add EvolveX or Ultimate Contour Cavitation once the weight is coming off steadily. That's for shaping stubborn areas, though. It's not the engine of the program - the labs and the coaching are.
Our Point Meadows location near St. Johns Town Center handles the scanning and testing in-house, so your data doesn't sit in another office's file for two weeks.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Medical Weight Loss
Most people who ask us about this aren't looking to lose a hundred pounds. They're stuck at fifteen. They've cut carbs, walked the Baymeadows trail loop four mornings a week, and the scale hasn't moved since spring. That's the person this is built for.
Clinically, medical weight loss is generally considered for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 and higher when there's a related condition like high blood pressure, prediabetes, or sleep apnea. But BMI is a blunt tool. We've scanned plenty of people whose BMI looked fine while their visceral fat number told a completely different story.
So we screen on data, not just a number on a chart.
- Your body composition scan shows high visceral fat, even if your weight seems normal
- Your resting metabolic rate came back lower than expected for your size and age
- Bloodwork points to insulin resistance, thyroid issues, or hormone shifts
- You've lost and regained the same weight three or more times
- You're carrying weight through the midsection that diet alone hasn't touched
Now the harder part. Some people shouldn't start here, and we'll tell you that in the consult.
If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning a pregnancy soon, this isn't the season for it. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2 rules out GLP-1 medications entirely. Active eating disorders need a different kind of care first, and we'll say so. Certain pancreatic and gallbladder histories change the conversation too.
And? If you've never tracked what you eat for even two weeks, and you sleep five hours a night, start there. We see this every single week. Fix the sleep, get a baseline, then come back. The medication works better on a body that isn't already running on fumes, and you'll spend less to get where you're going.

When a Weight Loss Program Isn't the Right First Step
Not everybody who asks us about this needs it. We'd rather tell you that up front than take your money and watch you stall out at month three.
Some people walk in already doing the hard parts wrong. They're sleeping five hours. They're drinking their calories. They haven't had bloodwork in six years. Fix those first and a lot of folks lose weight without any medication at all. That's not us being modest, it's just what the data on our own clients keeps showing.
Here's when we'd tell you to wait or go elsewhere first.
- You're pregnant, breastfeeding, or actively trying to conceive.
- You have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2.
- You've had pancreatitis, or you're managing active gallbladder disease.
- Your eating pattern looks more like a disorder than a habit. That needs a therapist before it needs a syringe.
- You're within a few pounds of a healthy body composition and you just want to be smaller. DEXA+ scanning settles that question in ten minutes.
And there's one more group. The person who wants medication but not the labs, not the check-ins, not the protein target. We don't run that kind of program.
Muscle loss is the real risk with rapid weight loss, and you can't manage what you never measured. So if you won't do the baseline testing, a program built on medication alone can leave you lighter and weaker. Nobody wants that at forty-five.
Not sure which group you're in? That's pretty common. A consultation sorts it out, and sometimes the honest answer is "come back in three months." We've said it before.

What to Expect Before Your First Visit
Your first visit isn't a weigh-in and a lecture. It's an intake. We sit down, we ask questions, and we listen to the whole story. What you've already tried. What worked for a while and then stopped. How you sleep. What your energy does at 3pm. Most people come in ready to defend themselves, and there's nothing to defend.
Then we measure. Because a number on a bathroom scale tells us almost nothing useful about your body.
- Comprehensive bloodwork to check thyroid, blood sugar, and other markers that quietly drive weight gain
- Dexa+ body scanning for body fat percentage, lean muscle, and visceral fat around your organs
- RMR testing to find out how many calories your body burns at rest
- PNOE VO2 Max testing when cardiovascular fitness is part of the picture
- A full medication and health history, including anything you're taking now
Come in fasted if we've asked you to, and bring your medication list. That's really it. Wear something comfortable you can move in. Plan for a longer appointment than you're used to at a doctor's office - this part isn't rushed.
Here's the part people don't expect. You may not leave with a prescription that day. We review your labs first, and sometimes those results change the plan entirely. Nine times out of ten there's something in the bloodwork worth talking about.
From there we build your Health Blue Print. It maps what we found, what we're targeting, and how we'll track it month to month. Lab work gets repeated. Scans get repeated. So you can see whether you're losing fat or losing muscle, which are two very different outcomes.
Our Southside location sits at Point Meadows near St. Johns Town Center, so parking is easy and appointments before or after work are realistic for most schedules.

How the Program Works From Consultation to Maintenance
People expect a prescription pad. That's not how this goes. Before anything gets prescribed, we need numbers, and those numbers come from your body, not an average.
Here's the order we work in at our Point Meadows office.
- Consultation. We talk through your history, past diets, medications, sleep, and stress. This is where the Be Still Blueprint starts taking shape.
- Baseline testing. DEXA+ body scanning takes about ten minutes and shows body fat, lean muscle, bone density, and visceral fat separately.
- Metabolic and lab work. RMR testing shows how many calories you burn at rest. PNOE VO2 Max looks at cardiovascular fitness. Comprehensive bloodwork checks what's happening underneath.
- The plan. Based on what we find, that may include GLP-1 Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, peptides, B-12 injections, health coaching, or a combination.
- Check-ins. We adjust as your body responds. Doses aren't set and forgotten.
- Re-scan. Another DEXA+ later in the program tells us whether the weight leaving is fat or muscle.
- Maintenance. This is the part most programs skip.
That re-scan matters more than the scale does. We've had folks lose twelve pounds and feel discouraged, then the scan shows they kept every bit of their muscle. That's a win, even if the number moved slowly.
Muscle is the piece people lose without meaning to. So we pair the medical side with tools like EvolveX body contouring and protein-focused coaching to protect it. And when you reach your goal, we don't just wave goodbye. Maintenance means tapering thoughtfully, keeping some check-ins on the calendar, and re-testing so you can see your own progress holding.
Not sure where you'd land in that sequence? Most people start at step one and figure it out from there.
