10-Point Assessment

Comprehensive Bloodwork Near Deerwood Jacksonville: Know Your Numbers, Build Your Plan
What Comprehensive Bloodwork Measures
Most people have had blood drawn. You fast, you sit down, somebody takes a few vials, and a week later you get a note that says everything's normal. That basic panel usually covers a metabolic snapshot, a blood count, and cholesterol. That's it. Three buckets.
But your body doesn't run on three buckets.
Comprehensive Bloodwork widens the lens. We're looking at the systems that drive how you feel day to day - energy, sleep, mood, recovery, body composition. Here's the general territory we cover:
- Metabolic and blood sugar markers, including fasting insulin and A1C, not just glucose
- Full thyroid function, not one lonely TSH number
- Sex and stress hormones, which shift a lot in your 30s, 40s, and 50s
- Inflammation markers that flag stress on the system before symptoms show up
- Nutrient and vitamin status, including B12, vitamin D, iron, and magnesium
- Advanced cardiovascular markers that go deeper than standard cholesterol
- Liver and kidney function, plus a complete blood count
Fasting insulin is the one we'd point to first. A person can have perfectly normal glucose while their insulin has been climbing for years. Nine times out of ten, that's the marker nobody checked. And it's often the earliest signal something's drifting.
Thyroid's another. One TSH value tells you very little on its own. You need the free hormones and often antibodies to see what's happening. We see this constantly with women in their 40s who've been told their thyroid is fine - tired anyway, gaining weight anyway.
Vitamin D matters more here than you'd think. Jacksonville gets plenty of sun, but plenty of our guests work indoors through the whole Southside business corridor and still test low. Sunshine outside the window doesn't count.
So the value isn't the volume of markers. It's that hormones, inflammation, and metabolism get read side by side, in the same draw, on the same day. That's where patterns show up.

Deciding If Proactive Testing Is Right for You
Not everyone needs this. Let's be honest about that part first.
If you had a full physical two months ago, your doctor ran labs, and everything came back clean and you feel fine, you can wait. Nothing wrong with sitting tight for a year. Same goes if you're actively working with a specialist who's already tracking your numbers on a schedule. Duplicating that isn't smart, it's just spending. And if your only question is one narrow thing, like a thyroid recheck, ask your primary care office. A single panel is cheaper and faster than a wide one.
So who does this help?
People who feel off but keep getting told they're normal. That's the big one. You're tired by 2 p.m., your sleep is broken, your weight moved without warning, and the standard panel came back fine. Comprehensive Bloodwork looks wider than that standard panel. It measures markers tied to inflammation, hormone balance, iron storage, insulin response, and nutrient levels. Those are the things that shift long before anything shows up as a diagnosis.
It also helps anyone starting something that changes the body on purpose. Beginning a GLP-1 program, jumping into peptides, training for a fall race, or restarting after years off. Without a baseline you're guessing about what's working.
We see this every week. Someone comes in for a DEXA+ scan, sees their visceral fat number, and suddenly wants the blood side of the picture too. The scan tells you what's there. The labs tell you why.
One more group. Folks with a family history that worries them. Heart disease, diabetes, thyroid trouble in a parent or sibling. You don't have to wait for symptoms to start watching.

When Bloodwork Isn't the Right First Step
Here's the part most places won't tell you. Sometimes the answer is wait.
If you had a full panel run at your doctor's office in the last three months, get those results first. Ask for the actual PDF, not the phone summary. A lot of people walk in thinking they've never been tested, then find out they have a year of data sitting in a patient portal they never logged into. We'd rather read that than repeat it.
There are other times a panel just won't tell you much.
- You're actively sick. A cold, the flu, or a recent infection can move inflammatory markers and white cell counts for weeks. Wait until you've been well for two to three weeks.
- You just started or stopped a medication, a supplement, or a GLP-1. Give it six to eight weeks so the numbers reflect the new normal.
- You have one specific symptom with an obvious cause. Sore shoulder after yard work doesn't need a metabolic panel, it needs a look at the shoulder.
- You're mid-crash-diet or just finished a hard training block. Fasting glucose and liver enzymes can read strange for reasons that have nothing to do with your health.
- You're pregnant or trying. Your OB should be steering testing, not us.
And if you're dealing with chest pain, shortness of breath, or anything that feels like an emergency, don't book a lab draw. Go to an ER. Blood tests are for patterns over time, not for what's happening to you right now.
We've told people to come back in two months more than once. It's a short conversation and nobody loves hearing it. But a panel drawn at the wrong moment gives you numbers you can't trust, and then you're chasing a problem that was never there. Timing is most of the value.

Preparing for Your Blood Draw
Prep matters more than most people think. A hard workout the night before can move your kidney markers. A big steak dinner can push your triglycerides up. Neither one means anything is wrong with you, but both can send you down a rabbit hole chasing a number that was never real.
So here's what we ask you to do.
- Fast for 9 to 12 hours before your draw. Water is fine. Water is encouraged.
- Skip alcohol for 24 hours. It shifts liver enzymes and triglycerides fast.
- Skip the heavy lifting and long runs the day before. Hard training raises certain muscle and kidney markers.
- Drink a full glass or two of water in the morning. Hydrated veins are easier veins.
- Bring your supplement list. Biotin in hair and nail vitamins can throw off thyroid and hormone results, so we ask you to stop it 72 hours out.
- Book an early morning slot if you can. Testosterone and cortisol are highest in the morning, and that's when the reference ranges were built.
If you're cycling, tell us where you are in your cycle. Hormone panels read very differently on day 3 than day 21. We'll time it right.
The draw itself takes about ten minutes at our Point Meadows location near St. Johns Town Center. You sit down, we find the vein, we fill the tubes, you're out the door. Most people are surprised at how short it is - the part that takes real time is the review afterward.
And one more thing. Don't change your habits for a week trying to make the numbers look good. We see this every single week, and it defeats the whole point. We want your baseline, not your best behavior.

From Draw to Results Conversation
Most people picture a rushed lab counter and a portal login three weeks later. That's not how we run Comprehensive Bloodwork here. The draw itself is the short part. The conversation afterward is the part that changes anything.
Here's the order of things, start to finish.
- You book and we tell you what to do the night before. Usually that means fasting and plenty of water. Dehydration skews several markers, and Jacksonville summers dehydrate you faster than you think.
- You arrive at our Point Meadows location. Check-in is quick. We go over your goals, your symptoms, your family history, and anything you're already taking.
- The draw takes a few minutes. A handful of vials. Most people are back in their car well inside half an hour.
- Your panel goes to the lab. Results typically land in a few business days, though some specialty markers run longer.
- We sit down together and go through every number. Not a PDF dump. A real conversation about what's high, what's low, and what's worth acting on.
- You leave with a plan. Diet, sleep, movement, supplements, retest timing - whatever your numbers point to.
That last step is where folks get surprised. They expect a pat on the back and a printout. Instead we're pulling up trends, flagging the two markers that matter most, and telling you plainly which ones we want to see again in three months.
