10-Point Assessment
Emsella Pelvic Floor Therapy in Jacksonville, Strengthen Bladder Control Without Surgery
June 20, 2022
What Emsella Is and How It Strengthens Your Pelvic Floor From Within
Emsella isn’t a supplement, a diet change, or a set of exercises you have to remember to do every day. That’s the first thing we tell every client who sits down with us in Jacksonville. Most people come in assuming bladder control problems mean surgery or a lifetime of liners. Emsella works completely differently, and once you understand how, it’s easy to see why so many men and women are choosing it.
Emsella uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to do something your body can’t do on its own through willpower alone: contract the pelvic floor muscles thousands of times in a single session. You stay fully clothed, sit in the Emsella chair, and the device does the work.
Here’s what actually happens during a session:
- The chair delivers focused electromagnetic energy directly to the pelvic floor.
- Those pulses trigger supramaximal muscle contractions, far deeper than a voluntary Kegel can reach.
- One 30-minute session produces roughly 11,000 contractions.
- Over a series of sessions, the pelvic floor muscles rebuild strength and tone.
- Bladder control improves as the muscles regain the support they’ve lost.
We see this every week. Clients come back after two or three sessions and say they stopped mapping out bathrooms before they leave the house. That’s the Emsella difference. It rebuilds the muscle, not just the symptom.
Because the treatment is non-invasive, there’s no downtime and no recovery period. You can walk in on a lunch break and go straight back to your day.
Over in the Riverside and Southside areas, we work with a lot of clients who’ve tried Kegels on their own for months without real results. Emsella fits a different need. It’s for people who want their muscles to do the work reflexively, without having to think about it.
According to the FDA clearance data and clinical studies, Emsella is effective in over 90 percent of incontinence patients treated. It works directly on the muscle weakness, not just the symptoms layered on top of it.

Who Makes a Strong Candidate for Emsella Treatments in Jacksonville
This is the question we get most often. People walk in from Riverside, Southside, and across Jacksonville not sure if Emsella is right for them, or if they should just keep doing Kegels at home. The answer depends on what’s actually causing the loss of control.
Emsella works best for people whose pelvic floor muscles have weakened gradually over time, whether from childbirth, menopause, prostate treatment, aging, or simply years of sitting and inactivity. It’s not a fix for a sudden medical issue. It’s a fix for muscles that have lost their strength.
Here’s what tends to make someone a strong candidate:
- You’re dealing with stress incontinence, urge incontinence, or both
- You want a non-surgical, non-invasive option
- You’re okay with a series of sessions rather than one quick fix
- You’ve tried Kegels but can’t engage the muscles deeply or consistently enough on your own
We see this every single week. Someone comes in assuming their only options are surgery or living with it, and after we talk through how the muscles actually work, Emsella ends up being the better fit. It’s not about age. It’s about muscle weakness, and that affects men and women in their 30s through their 80s.
Not the right fit? If your incontinence is caused by an underlying condition like an active infection or a structural issue, we’ll refer you out first. Emsella addresses muscle weakness, not every cause of bladder control loss.

What Happens at Your Emsella Appointment Step by Step
A lot of people come in nervous because they don’t know what to expect, especially since the idea of “11,000 contractions” sounds intense. It isn’t. Here’s exactly what happens when you sit down with us in Jacksonville.
We don’t just sit you in the chair and start the machine. Every appointment starts with a real conversation about your symptoms, when they show up, and what’s been affecting your daily life.
From there, we follow a clear sequence:
- Consultation. We talk through your symptoms, history, and goals, and confirm Emsella is the right fit.
- Getting settled. You sit in the Emsella chair fully clothed. No undressing, no numbing cream, no prep required.
- Calibration. We adjust the intensity to a level that engages the muscles fully without discomfort.
- Treatment. The chair delivers focused electromagnetic pulses for 30 minutes. You’ll feel a strong tapping or pulsing sensation as the muscles contract.
- Session wrap-up. You get up and go straight back to your day. No recovery time, no restrictions.
- Progress check. We track how you’re responding at each visit and adjust your treatment plan if needed.
The whole appointment runs about 30 minutes, and most clients read, check email, or just relax through it. Clients from Mandarin to Riverside have told us they’ve scheduled sessions on their lunch break and gone straight back to work.
Most people start a course of six sessions, spaced roughly two to three times a week over a few weeks. We map that schedule out with you at your consultation so there are no surprises.
We’re licensed medical providers, and we track your response at every session to make sure your treatment plan is actually working, not just running on autopilot.

Your Emsella Results Timeline
This is the part most people don’t expect. Emsella doesn’t require weeks of downtime or a slow reveal like some treatments. But it also isn’t an overnight fix. Real strength takes a full course of sessions to build.
Here’s what the timeline actually looks like:
- Session 1: You’ll feel the muscles contracting during treatment, but most people don’t notice a change in symptoms yet. That’s normal, one session is a start, not the finish line.
- Sessions 2-3: Many Jacksonville clients start noticing fewer leaks during exercise, coughing, or laughing. Muscle fatigue after sessions is common and expected.
- Sessions 4-5: Bladder control continues to improve. Clients report needing fewer bathroom trips and feeling more confident being out for longer stretches.
- Session 6 (end of initial course): Most clients report a significant improvement in control. Clinical data shows meaningful symptom reduction in the large majority of patients completing a full course.
- Months 1-3 after treatment: Results continue to hold as the muscle retains the strength it built. Many clients return for periodic maintenance sessions to sustain results long-term.
Most clients need six sessions over roughly three weeks for the initial course. We map that out with you at your consultation so there are no surprises.
And here’s what makes this different from a supplement or an exercise routine you have to remember. The strength Emsella builds is real muscle strength. It doesn’t require you to do anything during your day-to-day life to maintain the contraction pattern, the muscle simply holds it.
So if you came in expecting a one-visit fix, Emsella works better as a short course. But if you want your bladder control to improve without surgery, without downtime, and without a daily routine to maintain? This is it.

Emsella Aftercare and Keeping Your Results Long-Term
Here’s something we tell every single client before they leave the chair: there’s no real “aftercare” required, and that’s part of the appeal. Emsella doesn’t involve needles, incisions, or numbing cream, so there’s nothing to protect or avoid in the hours after your session. You can drive yourself home, go back to work, or work out the same day.
That said, a few habits make a real difference in how well your results hold over time:
- Weight matters. Excess weight puts sustained pressure on the pelvic floor. Research on overweight women with incontinence found that a mean weight loss of around 8 percent cut incontinence episodes by nearly half, and losing at least 5 percent of body weight produced fewer bladder-control episodes years later.
- Cut back on bladder irritants. Caffeine acts as a diuretic and a stimulant, and it can directly irritate the bladder. Cutting back reduces the strain on muscles that are still building strength.
- Quit smoking if you smoke. Nicotine irritates the bladder, and the chronic coughing that comes with smoking places repeated stress on the pelvic floor. Research out of Greece found heavy smokers are more prone to incontinence than nonsmokers.
- Check your micronutrients. Magnesium supports proper muscle and nerve function, and some studies link supplementation to improved bladder control. Talk to your provider before adding any supplement.
- Stay consistent with movement. Light daily activity, without long stretches of sitting or repeated heavy lifting, supports the muscle strength Emsella builds.
We also recommend periodic maintenance sessions to sustain results, since like any muscle, the pelvic floor benefits from ongoing reinforcement over time. We track your progress at each visit and let you know when a maintenance session makes sense.
And don’t skip your initial course. Most clients need all six sessions spaced correctly to get the full benefit. Stopping early means leaving results on the table.
