10-Point Assessment
Common Skin Concerns a TCA Peel Can Address
Sun damage is the main reason clients ask about a TCA Peel. Jacksonville's year-round UV exposure causes real damage. We often see uneven pigmentation across the cheeks, dark patches on the forehead, and rough texture. A TCA Peel works on years of damage. It reaches deeper than mild glycolic or enzyme peels.
Another common concern is melasma. Hormonal shifts from pregnancy or birth control can leave stubborn brown patches. These can seem hard to treat. A TCA Peel reduces excess melanin in the mid-skin layers. Results do not happen overnight. After proper healing, results often surpass lighter peels.
Fine lines and early wrinkles also respond well. The acid triggers your skin's own repair process. It boosts fresh collagen production from within. Crow's feet, lip lines, and forehead creases all soften. Results improve for weeks after the peel.
Acne scarring often surprises clients. Shallow, rolling scars and post-inflammatory marks can linger for months. A TCA Peel resurfaces the damaged top layer. New, smoother skin can then replace it. Clients often tell us they wish they'd done it sooner. They spent years on products that barely helped.
Rough skin texture is a less obvious concern. You might not have visible scars or dark spots. Your skin may just feel dull, bumpy, or uneven. Living near the coast in neighborhoods like Riverside or the Southside corridor means constant humidity and salt air exposure. This can thicken the outer layer of dead cells over time. A TCA Peel removes this buildup cleanly.
Not every concern needs this level of treatment. If your issues are mostly surface-level dullness with no real pigmentation problems, a mild enzyme peel or a HydraFacial might be a better starting point. We prefer to tell you that upfront. We do not want to put you through unneeded downtime.

Why One Peel Rarely Tells the Whole Story
Here is what we tell most new clients: a single TCA Peel shows what is possible. It will not finish the job. The first treatment breaks through the damaged outer layer, revealing fresher skin underneath. But your deeper concerns, sun spots from years of Jacksonville's UV exposure, stubborn acne scars, uneven texture, need more than one pass. This helps them fully resolve.
Your skin built those problems over years. One session cannot undo all of that.
We see this every week. A client comes in after their first peel looking noticeably brighter. They are excited, and they should be. Yet, melasma along their jawline might still be faintly visible. Fine lines around their eyes softened but did not disappear. This is not failure. This is how TCA works. Each treatment boosts collagen production deeper. It clears more damage. This brings you closer to your desired result.
Most clients need a series of two to four treatments. They are spaced four to six weeks apart. This spacing is important. Your skin needs time to heal and rebuild between sessions. Rushing it does not speed up results. It just creates irritation. Jacksonville's humidity and year-round sun intensity make recovery time even more important. New skin is vulnerable to UV damage. We plan your series around your schedule and the season. This protects all progress.
A series also allows us to adjust strength. We might start at a lighter concentration for your first session. We increase it once we see how your skin responds.
Not everyone needs the same depth. Someone dealing with rough texture from years of salt air and outdoor living near the Intracoastal needs a different plan. This differs from someone targeting early fine lines. We build your peel series into a long-term strategy during consultation. Each session then builds on the last one instead of starting over.
One peel opens the door.
The series guides you through it.

Who Should Hold Off on a TCA Peel
Not everyone should book this treatment right now. That is a direct answer. We prefer to be direct. We do not want you to spend time or money on an unsuitable treatment.
If you use prescription retinoids like tretinoin, you must stop for at least two weeks before a TCA Peel. Retinoids thin the outer skin layer. Applying trichloroacetic acid on top of that may cause burns or uneven penetration. We often see this come up with clients on acne prescriptions.
Active breakouts are another reason to wait. A TCA Peel on inflamed skin will irritate it, not heal it. This also applies to open cold sores or any active infection on the face. The acid treats all skin it touches.
Pregnant or nursing? Do not get this peel. There is not enough research to confirm safety during pregnancy. So, we do not perform TCA peels on expecting or breastfeeding clients.
Jacksonville's UV index stays high from roughly April through October. Strict sun avoidance and daily SPF 30+ are needed for two weeks post-peel. If you cannot commit, the timing is not right. New skin is highly vulnerable to hyperpigmentation from strong Florida sun. Clients with darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick types IV through VI) face more risk for post-inflammatory darkening. A careful pre-treatment plan is needed before a medium-depth peel.
If you just had another resurfacing treatment like our Advanced Fractional CO2 Laser or Microneedling recently, your skin needs more recovery time first. Stacking aggressive treatments too close together does not speed up results. This can set back your progress.
We prefer to tell you "not yet." We will not push you into something that will not go well. A quick consultation at either our Riverside or Southside location can determine if your skin is ready. We can also suggest milder options, like our Mild Enzyme/Glycolic Peel, as a starting point.

What to Expect Before and During Your Treatment
Your TCA Peel begins before your visit. We provide a prep routine starting two weeks prior. That means stopping retinoids and certain exfoliants. This prevents skin sensitization on treatment day. Jacksonville's year-round UV exposure near the St. Johns River corridor makes sun protection during prep vital. We guide you on what to use and what to skip.
On the day itself, plan for about 45 minutes total.
First, we cleanse your skin to remove oils and sunscreen. Then we apply a degreasing agent. This step is important. It determines how evenly the acid penetrates. Often, when clients report uneven results from peels elsewhere, the prep was rushed.
During application:
- We apply the TCA solution in thin layers using gauze or a brush. You will feel a warm sting. It builds for two to three minutes.
- Your skin will turn white in certain areas. We call this "frosting." This shows us peel depth. We can then adjust in real time.
- Once we reach the correct frost level for your goals, we neutralize or let the acid self-neutralize. This depends on the concentration used.
- We finish with a barrier balm to protect treated skin.
The discomfort is brief; most clients find the anticipation worse than the actual feeling. You walk out looking like you have a sunburn. The real peeling starts around day three.
We see many clients at our Riverside location near Five Points. They schedule their peel on a Thursday. This allows heaviest flaking to occur over the weekend. You will not want to be in back-to-back meetings while your skin sheds. We provide a full aftercare kit and written instructions. This avoids guesswork at home.
No heavy workouts for 48 hours. No picking at flaking skin. Sunscreen is vital for the next month. We check in with you a few days post-treatment. This is to make sure everything is progressing as expected.

Healing, Sun Protection, and Jacksonville's Climate
Your post-treatment care determines your results. In Jacksonville, this means respecting the sun.
Northeast Florida gets roughly 220 sunny days per year. We factor this into every treatment plan. The UV index here stays elevated from March through October. This covers most of the year. When your skin heals from a medium-depth peel, it is exposed to conditions that can quickly undo progress.
The healing timeline depends on peel depth. Lighter TCA Peels might flake for three to five days. Stronger concentrations mean seven to ten days of flaking and sensitivity. During that window, new skin is very vulnerable to hyperpigmentation. This is true if you spend time outdoors near the St. Johns River. It also applies if you drive down Beach Boulevard with sun hitting your windshield.
Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is vital.
Sun protection involves more than just sunscreen. We walk clients through a full post-peel routine:
- Reapply SPF every two hours when outdoors.
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat during peak UV hours (10 a.m. and 4 p.m.).
- Avoid direct sun exposure for the first five to seven days.
- Skip hot yoga, saunas, and heavy workouts until peeling stops.
Clients who get uneven results often skipped sunscreen on day four. They may have "felt fine." Your skin might look healed. It is still rebuilding underneath.
Jacksonville's humidity helps one part of healing. Moist air keeps skin from cracking and tightening. This differs from a dry desert climate. Humidity plus heat means sweat. Sweat on new skin causes irritation. Stay in cool environments during active peeling days.
Aftercare commitment is as important as the peel itself. We see this every week. Clients who follow their aftercare instructions closely return with noticeably clearer, more even skin.
