10-Point Assessment

Advanced Fractional CO2 Laser in Southside Jacksonville: Real Skin Renewal, Honest Recovery
What Advanced Fractional CO2 Laser Corrects
So what does this fix? We get asked that a lot. The honest answer: it's for damage that lives below the surface, not just on it.
- Acne scarring, especially pitted or box scars that don't respond to microneedling alone
- Sun damage and deep pigment issues built up over years in Florida's UV
- Fine lines and deeper wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, and forehead
- Uneven texture, large pores, and rough patches that makeup can't smooth over
- Loose skin in early stages, before it needs a surgical fix
Here's the thing about acne scars. Nine times out of ten, someone's tried everything else first, creams, peels, maybe microneedling. Those help some. But scar tissue sits deep, and surface treatments just can't get down there. The laser creates tiny controlled columns of injury deep into the dermis. Your skin panics a little, then rebuilds itself stronger and smoother.
Sun damage is its own category. Years of Jacksonville summers add up, and by your late 30s or 40s, that shows up as brown patches, broken capillaries, and skin that just looks tired. This laser resets that top layer completely.
One more thing worth saying plainly. If your main concern is mild dullness or a few fine lines, you probably don't need this yet. A HydraFacial or a lighter peel might do the job just fine, and we'd tell you that in a consultation.

Matching Treatment Intensity to Your Skin Concern
Not every skin concern needs the same laser pass. That's the part people miss. A shallow acne scar and a deep sun-damaged wrinkle line don't respond to the same energy level, and treating them the same way is how you end up disappointed, or worse, over-treated.
We adjust depth and density based on what we see on your skin during consult. Fine lines around the eyes and mouth usually call for a lighter, more conservative pass. Deep acne scarring or sun damage on the cheeks often needs more aggressive settings to reach the collagen underneath.
- Fine lines and early texture changes: lighter settings, shorter recovery
- Acne scarring and deep texture: higher density passes, longer healing window
- Sun damage and pigment on the cheeks or forehead: moderate to deep depending on severity
- Active acne or infection: not a candidate until it clears
Here's something we tell people often. If your main concern is mild dullness or dehydration, a HydraFacial or a Chemical Peels will get you there faster and with zero downtime, this laser is for deeper structural change, not maintenance glow.
So how do you know which category you're in? That's exactly what we map out during your visit. We look at your skin under good light, ask about your history, and talk through what's realistic for your goals and your recovery timeline.
This kind of matching is part of what we call our Be Still Blueprint, our process for building a plan around your actual skin instead of guessing. You can read more about how we approach this on our main service page for our Southside location.
And if you're not sure which bucket your skin falls into, don't guess online. Bring a photo from five years ago if you have one, it helps us see the change and plan the right depth.

Who Should Wait or Choose a Different Treatment
Not everyone needs this treatment. We'll say that plainly, because it's true.
If you've got mild sun spots or just want a quick glow before an event, an Advanced Fractional CO2 Laser session isn't the right call. You'd be better off with a HydraFacial or a chemical peel, something with zero downtime. This laser is built for deeper problems: real texture damage, acne scarring, deep static wrinkles. Using it on light concerns is like using a sledgehammer to hang a picture frame.
Active acne breakouts, open cuts, or a cold sore flare are reasons to wait. Treating over active inflammation just spreads it and slows healing. Same goes for very recent sun exposure, we ask that you avoid direct sun and tanning for a few weeks before treatment, since sunburned or heavily tanned skin reacts unpredictably to laser heat.
Certain skin tones need a careful conversation first. Fractional CO2 can raise the risk of pigment changes in darker skin, so this isn't a one-size treatment. That's exactly why we don't skip the consult step, ever.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding, we'll hold off until you're cleared
- On isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past six to twelve months
- History of keloid scarring or slow wound healing
- Looking for same-week results before a big event
- Unmanaged autoimmune skin conditions like active eczema flare-ups
If any of that sounds like you, don't panic, and don't cancel your plans to look better this year. It usually just means a different modality first, or a short waiting period. We'll tell you straight if this isn't your treatment. That's the whole point of a real consult instead of a menu order.

Preparing for Your Session and What Happens During Treatment
Getting ready for Advanced Fractional CO2 Laser starts about two weeks out, not the morning of. We'll ask you to stop retinoids, avoid new sun exposure, and skip any waxing or harsh peels before your session. Sun exposure is the big one, healing skin does not tolerate a fresh burn well.
On the day of treatment, plan for about an hour total. Here's roughly how it goes.
- We cleanse your skin and take quick before photos so you can see your progress later.
- A numbing cream goes on and sits for 30 to 45 minutes, this is the part people always underestimate.
- Once you're numb, we pass the laser over the treatment area in a controlled grid pattern.
- You'll feel warmth and light snapping, most people describe it as rubber band pops more than pain.
- We apply a cooling or calming layer right after to bring your skin temperature down.
- You'll leave with clear aftercare instructions and product to start that same night.
Your skin will look pink to red right away, kind of like a moderate sunburn. That's normal, that's the laser doing its job.
Some clients ask if they can drive themselves home. Most can, we just don't recommend makeup or heavy sun for the rest of that day.

Recovery Timeline and Sun Protection in Florida's Climate
Here's the part people don't love hearing. Advanced Fractional CO2 Laser has real downtime, usually five to seven days before skin looks normal enough for makeup to cover it well. You'll see redness, some swelling, and skin that feels tight and warm, almost like a sunburn. By day three or four it starts to flake and peel, that's the new skin doing its job underneath.
Now here's where Jacksonville makes this trickier than it would be somewhere with actual winter. Our sun is strong nearly year round, and freshly treated skin has zero natural defense against UV rays for weeks after treatment. Walk out to your car in a Southside parking lot without SPF and you're risking dark patches that can take months to fade.
- Days 1-3: redness, tightness, mild swelling, stay indoors when possible
- Days 4-7: peeling and flaking, avoid picking at skin
- Weeks 2-4: pink tone fades, strict SPF 30+ daily, reapply if you're outside
- Weeks 4-8: full results settle in as collagen keeps rebuilding
We tell every client the same thing before they book: if you can't commit to daily sunscreen and a wide-brim hat for a month, we push the timing. Maybe that means waiting until a stretch with less outdoor activity planned. We'd rather delay a treatment than watch someone undo their results driving around Baymeadows with the windows down.
Skipping sun protection after this treatment is one of the fastest ways to trade a good result for a bad one.
